Air Force Chief Arup Raha supports Govt decision on appointment of New Army Chief

As controversy brewed over the appointment of Lt Gen Bipin Rawat as the next Army Chief, with opposition questioning as to why he was chosen over his seniors, TIMES NOW spoke to Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha on the supersession row.

In an exclusive interview, Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha said that once the government has made the decision, there should be no debate on it. He said seniority and merit are both important aspects.

He further said any officer who has reached up to the top level is fit to lead the Force.

The IAF chief also responded to charges against former Air Chief SP Tyagi in the AgustaWestland case.

Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha said that such incidents dent the reputation of the forces but he hopes that SP Tyagi is acquitted of all charges.

Congress party had questioned Narendra Modi Government over the appointment of Vice Chief of Army Staff Lt Gen Bipin Rawat as the new Army Chief, says whimsical cherry-picking has been done by the BJP Government.

Former Air Chief Marshal SP Tyagi is out on bail in connection with the ₹3,600 crore AgustaWestland VVIP chopper scam. SP Tyagi, his cousin Sanjeev Tyagi and Delhi-based advocate Gautam Khaitan were arrested by the CBI recently.
