Three killed in terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir

Three employees of the General Reserve Engineering Force (GREF) have been killed in a terror attack in Khour area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Akhnoor sector.

The area has been cordoned off and Akhnoor bridge has been shut. No vehicle movement being allowed on this bridge.

Terrorists attacked a GREF camp in Batal village near the international border along the Line of Control (LoC). A high alert has been sounded in Khour area and at all Army camps following the infiltration.

According to intelligence sources, terrorists infiltrated into Batal village from the LoC and targeted the GREF camp early this morning.

The GREF camp is about two kilometers from the LoC. Gunshots were heard in Batal village. How many GREF employees are injured in the attack is not yet known.

REINFORCEMENTS SENT TO TACKLE TERRORISTS

“The attack has taken place in the morning. Reinforcements have been rushed to tackle the terrorists,” a senior police officer said in Jammu.

Police, Army and village defence committees have also been put on high alert in Akhnoor sector to stop the movement of terrorists towards Jammu city as the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly is in session.

Meanwhile, schools and college in Akhnoor sub-division have been closed.

 

The GREF is the parent cadre force of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) that builds and maintains border roads in the country.
