149 Officers Join Indian Army after passing out from OTA Gaya

Altogether 149 officers, including 30 special commissioned officers, were inducted into the Army on Saturday. Whereas 119 of the officers are direct recruits who, after passing their senior secondary exams, got one-year basic training in military science and defence strategy/technique and were subsequently enrolled in different military engineering colleges located in Secunderabad, Mhow and Pune for a three-year course, the 30 special commissioned officers are all serving Army men who joined the force in lower ranks. The special commissioned officer get inducted through an internal merit hunt.

The induction of officers has come at a time when the Indian Army, besides facing challenges on the western and northern borders, also suffered from shortage of officers. In fact, the Officers Training Academy (OTA), Gaya, was established to augment officer shortage as the other two OTAs located in Dehradun and Chennai were not in a position to meet the growing demand of well trained Army officers.

The induction ceremony was held with full military regalia and splendour in the picturesquely decorated Drill Square at the Gaya OTA. This was the tenth passing-out parade of the academy established in 2011.
